Description
Preacher's Cave 5 on Eleuthera in the Bahamas by Duane McCullough.
From the sign at Preacher's Cave Enterance: Preacher's Cave is perhaps most noted as a place of refuge for the first English settlers in the Bahamas. Known as the Eleutheran Adventures, this group sailed here from Bermuda in 1648 in search of religious freedom. After shipwrecking on Devil's Backbone Reef, they found shelter in the cave. They named the island after the greek word "eleuthera" -- meaning "freedom", and planted the seeds of a new nation.
